I am an American. My grandfather Rene Pardon was born in Dolina. I am very glad this forum exists, as I have hoped for many years to talk with people from the town and the area.

I am 36 years old and have been married for 9 years. I will answer any and all questions anyone might have about America. I do look forward to hearing back from anyone who wishes to write.

There is a great number of name Yakymovych in our phone book. Do you search your relatives in Dolyna? Don't you know some first and middle names of them?

P. S. Actually I've mistaken - there is only one Yakymovych in the book. If you are interested - I can give you the number, but I'm not sure if somebody there speak English...

Thank you for checking the phone book. I doubt if the person you located would know anything because my grandfather came to America in 1918 or so. I saw the pictures of Dolyna and it is very beautiful place.

I glad you liked Dolyna. You can come here to see all the places by yourself if you want But it's difficult for you, I think, especially if there are no relatives left here, in Ukraine.

Does Doyna have lots of tourists? I live in Los Angeles, California and travel occaisionally.

Can't say a LOT, but there are great number of tourists
Here are mountains Carpathians, rivers, great views and amazingly clear air.

But the negative side is that our tourist infrastructure is not developed much. Nevertheless here are few great hotels and recreation centres.
Some italians and germans like to spend time in Dolyna while being in business trips in our region And others too of course
So come to us, your grandfather's fatherland!

I'm from Germany and am doing some family research. My grandfather once told me that my family originally hailed from Dolyna, nowadays located in the Ukraine.
By chance, I stumbled upon this forum (on the English Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dolyna ) and I suppose I've found the place. I also heard that Dolyna was once located in Austria-Hungary. Is that correct? And is there any sort of historical website (preferrably in English) about Dolyna's history? By the way, the name's Lewicki - ist that a common name in the area?

Dolyna is in territory which was a part of Austro-Hungarian empire earlier.
Lewicki (Левицький) - popular enough surname in our region.

Unfortunately sites about Dolyna in English are not known to me.
I hope, in the future, some information will appear here.

Unfortunately I do not know where he lived exactly. And I am not certain about relatives in the area. I saw my mother's birth certificate and it listed Dolina for his birthplace. I wish I had more information and thank you for the link with the wonderful photographs of the area.
